Version 2.0: Work in Progress

Dear all,

After more than 2 years of silence, there will finally a new version of InboxRuler available! Unfortunately due to a lot of personal circumstances I could not find the time to actively work on InboRruler. However as I still received quite some requests for bug fixes and enhancements I wanted to make a new version. This is version 2.0 which contains quite a number of bugfixes and small enhancements. Works is still to be done on the background processing which is still not reliable enough regarding timers. Version 2.0 supports the usage of Apple Push Notification but bear in mind that the infrastructure is not complete yet and hence not working completely. That will be done as soon as possible and version 2.0 is ready for this. Nonetheless I did not want to wait any longer to release the new version.
Major changes (also documented in the help and user guide):

Version 2.0:

  • Now works with 163.com mail domain.
  • Fixed two factor authorisation issues with gmail, defaults now to OAuth2
  • New method for background processing (but infrastructure not complete yet)
  • Automatically select proper inbox, trash and drafts folders where possible if imap server supports these flags
  • New internal structure to save rules and accounts with help of realm database. Unfortunately previous rules will be deleted and need to be set-up again.

Version 1.60 available in the app store!

Finally! A new version of InboxRuler is available which solves an annoying bug when creating a new account and adds 2 factor authentication for gmail.

Please see the complete list of changes below:

New:
– Possibility to use two factor authentication for gmail. When creating a gmail account in InboxRuler you now can select OAuth2 as authentication method. After pressing Save you will be redirected to the google login page to allow InboxRuler to process your emails. No need to specify imap server, smtp server or your username and password anymore as the authentication will be done by google.

Bugfixes/Improvements:
– When creating a new email account InboxRuler could crash when the configuration data for the email provider was incorrect.
– The deleted messages folder can now only be selected when the mail account is valid.
– In the Selection Wizard the displayed email messages have a correct look and feel even when the default system font has been changed.

Next on the roadmap is to have a better way to control when the processing of mailboxes in the background will take place. First results look promising, so stay (i)tuned!

Working on update and bug fix for gmail!

Yes, it has been a while…

But finally I got the time to start working on InboxRuler again and now starting to update to the latest iOS and libraries. I did encounter almost immediately after rebuilding the reason why InboxRuler does not work with gmail anymore. The 2 Factor OAUTH is processed incorrect. Next task on the list!

More updates to follow as I have a bunch of ideas to improve InboxRuler, especially to make the background timer more reliable.

Stay tuned!

Submitted version 1.50 to the App store

Hello all,

We just released a new version of InboxRuler. The last version (1.44) unfortunately contained a serious bug which prevented users to save new or modified rules. This release not only fixes this issue but also has additional possibilities to select messages based on date. It is now possible to select messages by for instance a week ago, a month ago and so on. This can be handy if you want to clean up your inbox to move all e-mails older than 3 months to an archive folder.

As always, please let us know if you have suggestions for new functionality or what can be improved in InboxRuler!

Happy Easter,

Paul Fennema

New updates are coming for inboxruler..

Hello all,

It has been a while for updates on the website and inboxruler itself due to all kind of other activities. However, there has been more time in the schedule for inboxruler and last but not least with the purchase of new hardware (iMac 27″ retina 5K 😉 development should be a lot smoother.

Next on the agenda is to release a version of inboxruler ‘lite’ which will be free in the app store, but with limited functionality (one mailbox, one rule) to have people try out what inboxruler can do for you withouth actually purchasing.

Of course, we are working on new functionality as well such as POP3 integration and better background support.

Version 1.40 submitted to the app store!

Version 1.40 adds connectivity enhancements for imap and smtp. You now can select the connection and authentication type, this should resolve most connectivity issues. If there are more issues, please provide us with details of your imap and smtp server where you have issues with. We will make sure we can connect to them as well.

Further enhancements:

– Possible to select on ‘mail to:’ and ‘mail cc:’ fields in addition to ‘mail from:’
– Selection if body of message contains a specified text.
– It is now possible to select a specific deleted folder
– The ‘delete’ action will move the selected messages to the deleted folder instead of really deleting the messages.

Version 1.40 should be available around the 10th of April 2014.

Added selection wizard to InboxRuler

To ease the creation of rules, you can now select a message from one of your inboxes which will fill the selection fields. The subject, date, mail from and size will be fetched from the selected mail message. Version 1.30 will be submitted this week!

See the complete list of enhancements and bugfixes below:

BugFixes:

  • When moving messages, deleting does work properly but no end of operation was given and hence, executing rules will continue to be shown and InboxRuler did not return to the main screen.
  • Non standard characters in folder paths were not correctly shown
  • The switch for ‘process only read messages’ in the selection screen did not show the correct value. When value was correctly picked up however, but not shown correctly on the screen.

Enhancements:

  • New selection helper, which uses a selected message in the inbox to fill the selection criteria
  • Improved selection screen, which is more compact.
  • The number of messages processed in the background is shown on the icon and cleared when the user opens the log tab.
  • Added new selection criteria such as Subject does NOT contain, email address is NOT on the to: list etc. With the new selection criteria you can select messages which are not directly sent to you and move them to a spam box for instance or even delete them.

Submitted version 1.10 to the app store!

As soon as Apple approves our updated version, the updated InboxRuler will be available in the App store.

The following has been changed:

BugFixes:

  1. Signature was initially empty and not saved, resulting in a ‘(null)’ signature
  2. When no rules defined, a message in the log screen was shown that there is no internet connection for All rules.
  3. When deleting email account, the account could be ‘dangling’ in the rule. This has been fixed.

Enhancements:

  1. Added possibility to add, rename or delete a folder in the folder selection screen
  2. Added retina icons for tab bar images and for log screen
  3. For well known email addresses, values for email servers are automatically filled-in.
  4. Added possibility to send log file to info@inboxruler.com if there is a problem. The log text can be edited before sending if needed. The log output and the definition of the rules will be sent.

InboxRuler accepted in the app store!

Yes, the InboxRuler is now officially for sale in the app store!

Now we can add the ‘available in the app store’  logo to the site and update the FAQ with known issues, as there is one issue with the signature which is not saved initially in Core Data, only when pressing the save button it will be added to forwarded message. More details to follow..

Inbox ruler almost ready!

The last finishing touches are now being completed….

Of course as being a developer, design of logo’s and pictures turns out to be the hardest part…  🙂
